Quiz Checkpoint - TC Track
About This Quiz
This quiz tests your understanding of Treatment Coordinator content covered in Module Six. Like the core curriculum quizzes, this is designed as a learning tool with detailed feedback on each answer.
You may take this quiz multiple times. Learning from the feedback is more valuable than achieving a high score on your first attempt.
What You Should Know Before Taking the Quiz
Review these key concepts from Module Six:
Consultation Flow
Treatment options include standard treatment, nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and general anesthesia. Each is appropriate for different situations.
Sedation is not general anesthesia. The child remains arousable and maintains reflexes.
Financial conversations require transparency and sensitivity. Present costs clearly without pressure.
Recognize the Iceberg Effect in parent questions. Technical questions often mask emotional concerns.
CDCP Conversations
CDCP (Canadian Dental Care Plan) is a federal dental benefits program for eligible Canadians. CDCP has its own fee schedule that may differ from practice fees.
Balance billing is the difference between practice fees and CDCP payment.
Use the coupon analogy to explain balance billing.
Validate frustration without apologizing for your fees.
Phone Communication
The first thirty seconds shape caller impressions. Answer promptly with warmth.
Active listening means letting callers speak, confirming understanding, and asking clarifying questions.
De-escalate difficult calls by validating emotions before problem-solving.
Custody Verification
Stepparents are not automatically guardians and cannot authorize treatment without legal designation.
BC Family Law distinguishes guardianship from parental responsibilities.
When in doubt, pause. Do not proceed with treatment requiring consent until authorization is verified.
Sample Questions to Prepare
Consider how you would respond to these scenarios:
Scenario One A parent asks during consultation: “What exactly is in the sedation medication? I read online that one of these drugs has serious side effects.” How do you respond?
Think about: What is your scope? What might this question actually be asking? How do you address the underlying concern?
Scenario Two You are explaining costs to a family. They have CDCP coverage. The treatment estimate is nine hundred dollars. CDCP will pay six hundred dollars. The family expected full coverage and becomes upset, saying “Nobody told us about extra costs.” What do you do?
Think about: How do you validate without apologizing? What information helps? What options exist?
Scenario Three A parent says they need to think about whether to proceed with sedation treatment. “It’s a lot to take in.” The schedule is tight and you have other families waiting. How do you handle this?
Think about: What is the priority? How do you balance schedule needs with family needs?
Scenario Four During a consultation, the dentist recommends oral sedation. The parent asks you directly: “Is sedation really necessary? My child did okay today.” How do you respond?
Think about: Who makes clinical recommendations? How do you support the dentist’s assessment without overstepping?
