About This Quiz

This quiz tests your understanding of CDA-specific content covered in Module Five. Like the core curriculum quizzes, this is designed as a learning tool with detailed feedback on each answer.

You may take this quiz multiple times. Learning from the feedback is more valuable than achieving a high score on your first attempt.

What You Should Know Before Taking the Quiz

Review these key concepts from Module Five:

Pediatric Clinical Fundamentals

Pediatric dental assisting requires behavior guidance skills beyond standard CDA certification.

Never say needle, shot, or drill in front of children. Use practice-approved alternatives.

Parents in the operatory need expectations set, jobs assigned, and gentle redirection when needed.

Documentation follows specific templates for each appointment type.

Sedation Support

Fasting requirements are absolute. Nothing by mouth after midnight means nothing.

CDAs assist clinically, observe patients, and communicate with families during sedation.

Recovery must not be rushed. Discharge criteria must be met before patients leave.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Speak up if something seems wrong.

Sample Questions to Prepare

Consider how you would respond to these scenarios:

Scenario One During a restoration on a cooperative five-year-old, the parent says encouragingly: “Almost done with the shot!” What do you do?

Think about: What language rules apply? How do you redirect without criticizing the parent?

Scenario Two A sedation patient’s parent mentions in the recovery room that their child had a small sip of water this morning because they were crying. The child has already received the sedation medication. What should happen?

Think about: What is the significance of the fasting requirement? Who needs to know about this?

Scenario Three X-rays taken during sedation show two additional cavities that were not visible during the consultation. The dentist is continuing to work. What is your role?

Think about: Who communicates with the parents? What documentation is needed? What consent issues arise?

Scenario Four During sedation, you notice the child’s breathing seems different than earlier. The sedation nurse is focused on charting. What do you do?

Think about: Is observation only the sedation nurse’s job? How do you handle potential concerns?
