About Dr. Tsang and Our Practice
Start Here
This is your first introduction to our practice. Before applying to any role, you need to understand who we are and what drives us. This is not marketing material designed to sell you on the position. This is an honest picture of our practice culture.
Twenty Years of Pediatric Dental Care
Dr. Phoebe Tsang has been providing specialized pediatric dental care in the Vancouver area for nearly twenty years. In that time, her practice has built a reputation for handling the cases that other dentists refer out, the anxious children, the complex procedures, the families who need extra patience and expertise.
Pediatric dentistry is not simply treating small adults. Children process fear differently than adults. Their teeth and mouths are structurally different. Their cooperation depends on factors that do not apply to adult patients. Dr. Tsang chose this specialty because she believes every child deserves positive dental experiences that set them up for lifelong oral health.
The practice operates from two locations: a primary clinic in Vancouver and a secondary clinic in New Westminster. Most team members work at both locations depending on the schedule. This flexibility requires adaptability, but it also means you gain experience across different patient populations and clinic setups.
The Practice Philosophy
Three principles guide every decision at our practice.
Children come first. This sounds obvious, but it has real implications. When a child is anxious, we slow down. When a parent is frustrated, we remember that their child’s experience matters more than our convenience. When procedures run long because a child needs extra breaks, we do not rush.
High standards without shortcuts. We do not take the easy path when the right path is harder. We document thoroughly. We communicate completely. We follow protocols even when no one is watching. This discipline protects patients and protects the team.
Everyone contributes equally. This is a small team. There is no hiding behind job titles or waiting for someone else to handle problems. If you see something that needs doing, you do it. If you have an idea that could improve things, you share it. Your voice matters here regardless of your position.
What Makes This Team Different
Many dental practices hire for technical skills and hope personality works out. We hire differently.
We look for people who genuinely care about children and can demonstrate patience under pressure. Technical skills can be taught. Attitude cannot. If you joined dentistry because you wanted to help people but found adult patients draining, pediatric dentistry might be where you belong.
We also look for people who want to grow. This practice invests significantly in training. In return, we expect team members who are curious, who ask questions, and who take feedback seriously. If you prefer to do things the way you have always done them, this is not the right fit.
Finally, we look for people who can work in ambiguity. Pediatric patients are unpredictable. Schedules shift. Parents have unexpected questions. The team member who thrives here is comfortable adapting rather than needing rigid routines.
What You Should Know Before Proceeding
Before you continue through this curriculum, understand what you are signing up for.
The hours are part-time to start. Almost everyone begins with limited hours while we learn whether you are a good fit. If you prove yourself, hours increase. If you need full-time income immediately, this position may not work for your situation.
The training period is intensive. You will learn a lot in your first months. This means accepting feedback, making mistakes, and growing from them. If you prefer minimal supervision and complete autonomy from day one, this is not the right environment.
The commitment is mutual but serious. We invest significantly in your development. In return, we expect you to stay. If you are looking for a temporary position while you figure out your next step, please do not apply. We are building a team for the long term.
